Christchurch has a small but growing team of ringers, who practice with the Bermondsey band on Tuesday evenings and ring some Sunday mornings and for other special occasions at Christchurch. We come from all ages and backgrounds and the combined team rings ‘methods’ up to Cambridge Surprise. The team attempt regular ‘quarter peals’ on Sunday evenings at Christchurch, St Anne’s Limehouse and St Mary’s Rotherhithe in rotation.
Our ring of eight bells were fully restored in 1991 and are very easy to ring. We have equipped tower with a computer simulator and have a projector and screen so that you can watch realistic videos of the other ringers and practice ringing in time with the computer.
Several of our ringers are members of the Association of Ringing Teachers, and as an ART Teaching Centre we are well placed to teach people to ring, and to do this quite rapidly. We are always willing to teach new ringers, although we do ask that you join our band, or one of the other bands in the area, to ring regularly with us on Sundays.
In addition to the regular Tuesday practices at Bermondsey and Limehouse, we run sessions on Wednesday and other weekday evenings, by arrangement, to help new ringers through Levels 1 and 2 of the Learning the Ropes scheme, using our simulator. For more information contact Roger Booth.
