Docklands Ringers AGM & Striking Competition 2018

This Saturday we held our annual Striking Competition and AGM, hosted this year at St Mary with All Saints, Rotherhithe. Many thanks to Louise and Colin and to all those others who helped to arrange food and other arrangements.

3 bands took part in the call changes competition and 4 in the method ringing. This year Lewisham managed to win both cups.

The committee also saw some big changes this year as Gillian Harris stood down as Secretary after years of sterling work, and Morag Todd stepped down after serving the docklands ringers since its founding. Many thanks were given to them both. Trisha Shannon will take on the role of Secretary. We also welcomed 3 new committee members, Dorinda, Emma and Paul.

I have updated all of the email aliases for committee membership and officer roles.

Finally, I would like to remind you all that the docklands ringers are dependent upon your modest membership fees of £5 for adults and £2.5 for junior members. We have 51 people actively participating with our mailing group, but only 36 paid up members last year. Please contact your tower captain or the treasurer to pay yours.

Ringing Remembers

100 years on from the signing of the Armistice which ended the first world war, to commemorate all those who were lost in this conflict including the 1400 bellringers who died, ringers across the docklands area rang at 12.30 as part of Ringing Remembers.

Here are some photos of the ringers who took part. Many thanks to the humble person who made the poppies that many of the ringers are wearing.

Extra practice sessions

The docklands ringers are arranging some additional practice sessions at Limehouse on the 1st, 8th & 15th of Dec, 2.00pm-4.00pm. Louise is kindly planning on teaching at these, numbers and helpers permitting.

  • 1st – for rounds and making places
  • 8th – for doubles
  • 15th – for plain hunting

We are interested to hear from both those who would wish to benefit from these sessions, but also from those who are already confident in these skills and are available to help make the sessions a success. Please email the docklands ringers mail group.
