Changes to the website

AGM Minutes added to DRC website

The site has been updated to add the AGM minutes and webmaster report from the recent meeting. Thanks to Gill and Morag for producing them.

The documents are stored in the members’ area so you will need to log on to access it. If you’ve forgotten your password, you can request a new one from the logon screen.

Automated emailing of new Calendar entries

Following a request made at the DRC AGM, I have changed the web site such that it automatically sends an email to members when somebody adds an entry to the Calendar.

The intention is to make sure that all members are notified when something is coming up. The email will contain sufficient information to stand in its own right, but also has a link to the Calendar on the website in case you want to know more. The email also contains an ‘unsubscribe’ option if you don’t want to receive future emails of this type.

I’m afraid the web-site isn’t clever enough to generate an email if a calendar entry is changed or deleted, so the organisers will need to inform this separately if they want it brought to everyones’ attention (a delete and new post will take care of a change, although it is slightly clumsy).

Hopefully, this will promote more use of the calendar function. Anybody who wants to know how to use it, please contact me or one of the regular users.

Pingbacks and Trackbacks

I have been getting lots of spam messages from people linking to our site using pingbacks and trackbacks. I have now disabled them by default on new posts, and have updated the status on some of the older posts that seem to be favourites of the spammers.

You can always override this disabling when you post if you have a really good reason to do so – I can’t think of one, but  may be missing a trick somewhere.

If none of this makes any sense, please feel free to ignore it.

Header for web-site

I’ve added a banner to the web-site.  It’s like the main picture on your Facebook page and provides a common header to all pages.  I used the picture we took for the service at St Dunstan-in-the-West, but I would like a better one.

As with Facebook, the banner is a cropped version of a full-size picture.  Any suggestions ? Please send a regular picture and I will crop it to size. If there are lots of pictures, I will implement a ‘banner of the month’ scheme !
