Changes to the website

Calendar events will be emailed

Following feedback at the AGM, I have increased the people getting an email following a new calendar event being published.  I haven’t added everybody – mostly Tower Captains, Secretaries etc.  Let me know if you do/don’t want to get these emails.

Can I also remind the various secretaries to post calendar events as soon as they know about them and to add as much detail as possible – it may save you having to answer email queries. The calendar is very simple to use, but also has some delightful subtleties if you want to experiment – I particularly like the ability to add a map to our usual haunts.

Thanks, Andrew L

Geek stuff – Flash new ways to link to the DRC website

For those who wish to link to the DRC website using social media or want to use a barcode on a document – this is for you !

Social media such as Twitter restrict a messgae to 140 characters – so a normal link to our website can take up a fair chunk of this. Those good folks at Bitly ( www.bitly.com ) provide a service where they designate a short URL and map this to the normal one.  In our case, bit.ly/tYsfJD maps to www.docklandsringers.co.uk.  So, if you are a tweeter, you can now say a bit more when you link to us.

Here is a QRcode for our site. It was produced by our good friends at Bitly and actually links to our site via our short code.  When producing documents such as posters, business cards, flyers etc, include this QRcode and people can link to us by scanning it with a smart phone ap such as Google Goggles.  If you wish to use  the QRCode, you can download it from this post by right clicking on the picture and ‘save image’, or copy it from the media library, or go to http://bit.ly/tYsfJD and hit the ‘copy’ box.

Good luck !

New Video of Rotherhithe bells

Morag has taken this video of the bells at Rotherhithe in action last Sunday (June 19th 2011). The shaking is caused by the movement of the tower, not the camera or Morag (so Morag tells me).

Several ways to see it. Click here for the video to play in YouTube.

Visit the Docklandsringers YouTube channel and see all the videos that we have – and a few comments and stats. Over 500 views in the year since it was created.

Or, click on the play button in the picture below and it will play inside this post.

The Rotherhithe ‘towers’ web page has also been updated to play the video.

New posts are automatically emailed to DRC members

The web-site has been updated to email all members when a new post is added. This is to ensure that all members have the opportunity to be aware of new posts without having to access the site to find out, subscribe to the RSS feed etc.

By clicking on the link attached to the email, you are directed to the new post where, as before, you will be able to add comments (if you log in).

I have subscribed all current members to this facility. However, you can opt out by going to the ‘notify posts by email’ option under the ‘members’ menu, or via the ‘(Un)subscribe to Posts’ option on the right hand sidebar. Or, ask me and I’ll do it for you.

Please note that emails sent from the web-site are not monitored so, if you reply to them, you will not get an answer.

All feed-back welcome. Pls add a comment on the post, or email Webmaster via the ‘contacts’ option.
