Last Thursday I needed to be in London for the Stepney practice but things turned out a little differently…
“Story of my Thursday “
Woke up at 5.30 in Scotland .
Got on motorway by 8.30 .
Lancaster stop off 10.30 .
Good progress !
On M6 . Traffic slower but still going at 50 .
11am . Delays expected , but still going .
Decision to keep on M6
Junction 16 . Passed .
Traffic .stationary .
But still plenty of time .
Limped off at Keele Services .
Total gridlock !
Talked to truckers who just smiled when said got to be in London by 7.30 .
Slightly perturbed but still only 12.30 .
2 hours later . No movement .
The board says motorway should be open by 4 !
Decide to go for a walk .
Over fence . Come across encampment probably for the illegal aliens …
Through woods .
See village in the distance .
Over fence , through fields , up hedgerows , through gate ,along track , road .
In the village of Keele . Nice .
Pub , village green , University , some students .
Oh a Church !
Visit . yes .
Very pleasant churchyard .
A door is open .
No , Tower !
Can’t be a practice ?
at 3 pm ?
Tied bell . 4 people . Beginners , locals .
I ring and help .My friend takes pictures .
He thinks that’s great for me , just what I wanted .
We walk back .
7 pm traffic starts to move . Slowly .
We pick up speed by 7.30 . We’re on the motorway again .
What a day !
Which just goes to show once you’re a bell ringer you can’t get away from it !
Anyway , how was the practice ? Steve J said he would try to get there .
